Do you know what happened to Jael Hilderbrand?
Our cold case database is in danger of no longer being maintained.
Jael, who was 22 years old, disappeared on November 5th, 2010 in Bangor, Maine. She was last seen by law enforcement jumping off the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, which connects Bangor and Brewer, into the Penobscot River. Her purse, containing her identification and cellphone, was found on the bridge but she has not been seen since and no body has been recovered. Though Jael was able to swim, it is possible she was intoxicated at the time and would have quickly become hypothermic in the cold water of that time of year. Jael was a member of the Passamaquoddy tribe.
Jael was a transgender female. She was assigned male at birth but she identified as female.
Jael was legally declared dead in 2014, but her case remains open until she is found. She had worked as an exotic dancer and escort at a local strip club and struggled with depression throughout her life, having made previous suicide attempts. Jael remains missing.
