The police are called to her home in January 2007 after Ricarda claims that Lou had choked her during an argument. He is arrested and charged with assault, and Ricarda goes to live in a domestic violence shelter.

Ricarda was 22 years old when she was last seen at 10:00am on February 19th, 2007 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was last at Jillian's Restaurant where she worked as a waitress and was picked up by her estranged husband, Lou Locket. All of her personal belongings including her wallet, ID, and cell phone were left behind.

Lou states that he dropped her off at the domestic violence shelter after they leave her workplace, around 5:00pm. Shelter employees later tell police that they never see her arrive, and that they haven't seen her ever since. According to Lou, after he drops Ricarda off at the shelter, he visits a friend's home to work on fixing a car, then stays at his mother's house for the night.

Ricarda was scheduled to pick her 11-month-old son up from her aunt's house later that day but never arrived. According to her aunt, Richenda Pritchard, "she'd call all through the day and ask 'how's my boy?' like that", when asked about Ricarda's usual habits with her son. Richenda was immediately worried when Ricarda failed to pick up her son on the evening of her disappearance.

Ricarda's boss reports her disappearance to the police, after she misses work two days in a row without contacting anyone. Her family states that they do not believe that she would have run away and leave behind her child, whom she cherished.
