Mitchell Deon Owens, was last seen inside his Menlo Park residence o n February 3, 1983. In the middle of the night, an unidentified individual broke into his family's apartment without being seen. Mitchell's mother was brutally assaulted by the intruder, who attempted to strangle her with a telephone cord. After being attacked, his mother  fell asleep and when she awakened, Mitchell was gone.  For many years, Mitchell's mother received phone calls from an anonymous man, who threatened to kidnap her other two boys. The caller's identity is still unknown, and it is unclear if he was involved in Mitchell's kidnapping.
