Miguel Angel called his wife on 17 July 2009, telling her that he was in Reynosa, and that he would be crossing the border soon. According to those in the group with him, they supposedly crossed the border and arrived to McAllen, Texas. They said that the Border Patrol arrived, and everyone scattered. Miguel Angel, who had been having some breathing problems after swimming across the river, was not able to run. The coyote said that he saw Border Patrol apprehend Miguel Angel.
