Overview of Margie Phillips
Margie Lee Phillips disappeared on April 22, 1976, in Fort Myers, Florida. She went missing after she was dropped off at the First Federal Savings and Loan Office by her boyfriend, Willie Lee Battles. Margie had planned to withdraw money from her account to purchase a new car. When Battles woke up from a nap in the car, Margie was nowhere to be found, and the bank was closed. She has not been seen or heard from since.
Authorities suspected foul play in Margie's disappearance as she left behind four children and would not have abandoned them. Margie worked hard to support her family by cleaning houses, which made it unlikely for her to leave them without warning. Battles was questioned multiple times, and while he denied any involvement in her disappearance, witnesses reported seeing the couple driving north on U.S. 41 after dropping her off at the bank. Despite these suspicions, there has been insufficient evidence to charge him in connection with Margie's case.
Margie's case remains unsolved, and her family is still searching for answers. While some agencies give the year of her disappearance as 1986, it is widely reported as 1976.
