Kerry Hoover was a 21 year old California native living in American Canyon, CA.

Kerry was last seen near her home on March 20, 1987.

Kerry was last officially seen leaving her home, a board and care home for developmentally disabled individuals, on Danrose Drive in American Canyon, CA to go to a nearby shopping center. Witnesses later reported that they had seen Kerry later that evening at the former Rancho Square shopping center near Highway 29 and Mini Drive with two young black men. Authorities were later able to identify both men and interviewed both of them extensively.

Two days later, Kerry’s body was discovered.

On March 22, 1987, Kerry’s body was found hidden in a bundle of bushes near Danrose Drive and Marla Drive in American Canyon, by a group of children who were playing in the area. Kerry’s autopsy revealed that she had been strangled to death, though it was unable to confirm whether she had been sexually assaulted.

Shortly after Kerry’s body was discovered, a man named Fred Duane Green was arrested for her murder. Investigators identified him as a suspect shortly after the murder, though they were unable to locate and arrest him until November of 1989. Because Kerry’s case is still listed as an unsolved case on the Napa County Sheriff’s Office’s website, it seems that the charges against Green were later dropped, though no information is available about this detail.
