Jhonte’ Jamal Peters was born in Forsyth County, NC in May of 1980. He graduated from Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to Omaha, NE to live with relatives only six years prior to his murder. He was a father to a daughter who was only six years old at the time of his murder and was living in North Carolina. Jhonte’ was known as the comedian in his family. He was always cracking jokes and spreading joy with his amazing sense of humor.

Jhonte’ did have a criminal record. He spent time in Nebraska Department of Correctional Services facilities once in 2010 when he was convicted of felony burglary and once in 2012, when he was convicted for being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon, a BB gun. At the time of his murder, he had completed his sentence and had reintegrated back into life as a law-abiding citizen.
Around midnight on July 22, 2013, Jhonte’ was shot in an alley between 18th Street and Willis Street in Omaha, NE by an unidentified gunman. When authorities arrived only minutes later, they found him with a gunshot wound and transported him to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving. People who witnessed the shooting reported that the shooter fled in a car, but they were unable to come up with a solid description of the car.
Jhonte’s family has had to suffer with no answers for more than nine years and his daughter has been forced to grow up without her father. His case is considered to be a cold case by authorities, who ran out of leads to investigate shortly after his murder.
