Only hours before she disappeared, Janice learned that she had been hired as a waitress at a local restaurant.

Janice was so excited she got the job that she called her mom, who was working a late shift, at about : pm to tell her about it.

Janice stopped at the home of a friend, Liz Salomon, to try and convince her to go out. Salomon, said no - a decision she says still haunts her.

Janice was headed to meet her older brother, Jimmy.

Janice finds out Jimmy is supposed to be meeting friends at another shopping center a little farther north.

Unable to find Jimmy, she returns to Liz's house. Liz again tells Janice that she doesn't feel like going out.

Janice leaves Salomon's house at 10:45. As near as anyone can tell, she then walked west of the Nesconset Highway headed to a bar.

The next morning, her family realized she was missing. Her bedroom, adorned with posters of rock stars, was empty. They put up fliers and called everyone they could think of.
