About
"They Called Her Georgia Lee"
Georgia Lee Moses was just 12 years old when she went missing. 12. Barely in junior high school, Georgia was a kid with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Her story tells the tale of how the system failed again and again to step in when it was needed – to support and care for the ones who need it the most. Her death was preventable. Perhaps just as tragic, is that Georgia’s case remains unsolved over 20 years later. Listen to her story, share it, and let’s find the killer who took advantage of this girl’s vulnerability, murdered her and then threw her away by a freeway.
To hear her sister Angel speak of Georgia is to truly understand what an amazing human being she was in her short time here on earth. Georgia, the older of the two, was Angel’s protector for seven years. Angel told NBC News’ Dateline “She practically raised me. She took care of me, she cooked for me, she loved me. She embodied what a mom was, and she did it effortlessly.” Georgia did all of this at a time in life when most girls’ concerns are what to wear to school the next day or how they fared on a math test. Georgia became the matriarch of this small family when her mother was ill and her little sister needed someone to depend on.
On August 13, 1997, Georgia and a friend were hanging out when she received a page on her pager. Georgia called the number back and awhile later, she and a friend walked to a nearby gas station located near the intersection of Sebastopol Road and Dutton Avenue in Santa Rosa, CA. Georgia left with an unidentified man. This was the last time she was seen alive. A little over a week later, a Caltrans worker fixing a broken guardrail off Highway 101 in Petaluma, California, discovered the body of Georgia in a grove of trees.
