Elizabeth moves to Provo, Utah to learn English after serving a mission in Mexico for the Mormon Church. She had recently received a scholarship to the Nomen Global Language Center and was looking forward to starting a new adventure.

According to phone records, the last time Elizabeth used her phone was to contact her uncle to ask for a ride to Walmart. She had been seen walking north on 500 West after school. However, another report (ABC4) suggests that her last text was with her sister but it was not her writing style.

The skeletal remains of Elizabeth Salgado were found in Hobble Creek Canyon. The remains were found by a hiker. She was found in a sleep-like position in a shallow grave. Her two front teeth were missing which suggests that its likely that Elizabeth had to fight back against her assailant. The family investigator believes that the person responsible may have had feelings for Elizabeth, likely speaks Spanish but could be white or Hispanic, and a likely apart of her small social circle of friends.

While the Utah Cold Case Coalition were canvassing the Hobble Creek Canyon location where Elizabeth's remains were found they discovered a penny located in the same spot her body was originally found. The penny was found using metal detectors and was underneath growth and leaves. DNA evidence was recovered from the penny.

Authorities announce that they are looking closer at a suspect they arrested in Sherry Black's murder to determine if there could be any connection. The suspect, Adam Durborow was living miles from Elizabeth's apartment. Shortly before Elizabeth went missing she told her family she felt like she was being watched on her way to school but could never identify who was watching.

Elizabeth's aunt, Miriam Judith Salgado goes missing from Washington County, Utah. She was reported missing after a few weeks with no contact.
