Arlene Byrd was known as ‘Twin’ to everyone and was loved by her family and community. Her twin sister Darlene Byrd and older sister Keshia Hamilton described her as energetic, outspoken, and the person everyone wanted to be around. She graduated from Wicomico High School in 1996. After she graduated, she worked at Furnitureland in Delmar and Genesis of Salisbury. She became a private sitter for some time, but later she worked at a barbershop and boutique called Classy Cats in Salisbury Maryland.

On July 17, 2010, Arlene Byrd went to a party at Brew River with Antonio Smith. They left the restaurant to return to Antonio’s apartment around 3 am where they were accosted by multiple suspects. The police believe that both Arlene and Antonio were tortured before they were killed in his apartment due to their autopsy reports.

Arlene Byrd was taken from her mother Arlena Deshields, grandmother Maggie Lockwood, her son that she loved dearly, four brothers and three sisters. She is well missed, and her family is in search of answers and closure. Arlene’s case has not been solved, but it has been reopened by Sgt. Lance Lloyd of Maryland State Police in November of 2020. They are actively working on new leads with the help from Salisbury Police Department.
