Overview of Terrance Alford
"I still don't believe it is true," Terrance's sister said. Her brother Terrance died from another senseless shooting that has recently become commonplace in New Orleans. So much so that Terrance became the 99th person to be murdered in New Orleans in 2017, and it was only July 9th, with another 5 more months to go until the year's end. Terrance was considered a loving person, the "nice boy" who played high school basketball and one who kept his grades up. Tragedy struck the Alford family only 8 years earlier when their mother, Shewanda Alford, passed away in 2009 due to cancer. So he and his siblings were living with his mom's sister at the time of his death.
Thunderstorms hit the New Orleans area around lunchtime that day, making it humid, hot, and muggy by night. Terrance had been at a party on Conti Street and decided to catch a ride home with his best friend's cousin who was driving a Honda. On his way, he spoke to his sister, who offered to make him food since he loved her cooking. Of course, Terrance accepted; but they had one more stop to make. The driver stopped at his girlfriend's house in the 1900 block of North Johnson Street when a gunman emerged from the bushes and opened fire, hitting the white Honda multiple times. The driver managed to get away and drove another 704 yards down the road to the Rally's Restaurant on the corner of St Bernard and Galvez street. A report of shots fired on Johnson street came into the NOPD around 10:25 pm. At about that same time, someone at the restaurant flagged down other officers in the area. Meanwhile, Terrance's other sister posted a message on Instagram saying that Terrance had been shot. His sister, waiting at home for him, saw the message and immediately went to Rally's restaurant, where a crowd had already gathered across the street. Terrance was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was taken to the hospital. Police finally confirmed that Terrance had been shot and died due to his injuries.
Authorities do not have a motive or a suspect at this time. This case is currently still open.
