Overview of Siegfried Woelki

Siegfried Woelki lived in Hackettstown, NJ with his girlfriend when he mysteriously vanished.

Siegfried was living at the Towpath Apartments in Hackettstown with his long-time girlfriend and was working part-time in Long Valley, NJ as a butcher at the North Jersey Packing House. Though not much else is known about Siegfried, we do know that he wrestled in college.

Siegfried vanished without a trace in October of 1982.

Siegfried was last officially seen at a Krauszer’s Food Store in Hackettstown, NJ around 5:30 pm on October 4, 1982. While there, he spoke with a friend who was an employee and told him that he had some “business to attend to” and that he would go back to his apartment in a few hours. This was the last official sighting of Siegfried.

Sometime between 8:00-9:00 pm that evening, Siegfried called his father. While on the phone, Siegfried told him that he was calling from the North Jersey Packing House in Long Valley, NJ, where he worked part-time as a butcher. Siegfried reportedly asked his father if he could meet him there the following day around 6:00 to help him wrap some meat. His father agreed and continued their conversation. According to his father, Siegfried was behaving normally during the call.

When the packing house owner arrived the next day, Siegfried was gone.

The owner of the packing house arrived the next day around 5:15 pm. He noticed Siegfried’s car was still in the parking lot, unlocked with the driver’s side window partially rolled down. The glove compartment, where Siegfried was known to leave his work keys, had been left open, but the packing house keys and Siegfried's car keys were missing. The owner also noted that doors to the packing house were locked and the burglar alarm was set. Siegfried’s car keys and the packing house keys have never been found.

Siegfried was reported missing that evening around 8:00 pm. Authorities conducted a search of the area surrounding the packing house as well as Siegfried’s car, but they were unable to find anything that assisted in their investigation.

Where the case stands today.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of Siegfried’s disappearance. It seems as though authorities are no closer to finding out what happened to Siegfried than they were in 1982. His case has been labeled as a cold case and has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office for any further investigation.

At the time of his disappearance in 1982, Siegfried was described as a 31 year old caucasian man with brown hair and brown eyes. He was around 5’9” tall and weighed approximately 190 lbs. Siegfried's nickname is 'Sig'. He wears glasses and has been described as having a fair complexion. If you have any information regarding Siegfried's disappearance or his whereabouts, please contact the Morris County Prosecutor's Office at (973) 285-6200.
