Shawn was riding in a vehicle with Preston Yates and Louise Ford on December 23, 2017 from Uhrichsville, Ohio where Preston and Louise reside. Heading to Cadiz, Ohio to get Shawn's girlfriend's car for Shawn's use. Before arriving at the girlfriends house, Brittany Cunningham, Shawn had a change in his behavior possibly due to substance abuse. Shawn asked them to pull their car over because he believed the police were behind them. Around 7:00 p.m. They pulled over by the Harrison County Home on Route 250, Shawn then got out of the car, Preston exited as well and tried to calm Shawn down, and it only aggravated Shawns paranoia more and then Shawn took off on foot in the direction towards Cadiz, Ohio. Preston's sister Louise and Louise's minor child remained in the vehicle and then Preston returned to the vehicle and they left to take Preston back to his home. Preston indicated he contacted Sharon Bocek, Brittany's mother, and asked if Shawn ever arrived to pick up the car and Sharon responded negative.
