Sharon tells her husband, John, that she was going to go Christmas shopping that day. Before leaving their home, Sharon also tells him that she would be home around 4:30pm. According to John, they had plans to go to Seattle that night for a motorcycle show and dinner.

Sharon had previously told her husband that she would be home by 4:30pm, but she fails to return home from the mall.

When he wakes up around 5:30pm, he notices immediately that Sharon had not returned home and had not called.

After Sharon fails to return home by 6:00pm, John calls Sharon's best friend, Mary, to see if she had heard from his wife.

Sharon's best friend, Mary, discovered Sharon's car in the parking lot of the Everett Mall. She noted that the doors were locked, and that there were not any Christmas presents inside of the car, however, her cell phone and a gun she had owned for protection were both inside of the car. Sharon was quickly filed as a missing person.

Family members, friends, and coworkers search every park in Snohomish County, railroad trestles, swamps, woods, and snowbanks. These search parties even searched homeless shelters and checked every pawn shop in the immediate area for Sharon's unique jewelery without any luck.
