Gilgo Beach Case Update

As of July 14, 2023, Suffolk County Police have arrested Rex Heurermann in connection to the Long Island Serial Killer case. For more information, our coverage can be found here. This is a developing story.

Shannan Gilbert

Shannan Gilbert was a woman whose mysterious disappearance led to the discovery of ten other bodies alongside Ocean Parkway. It is unclear if her death is connected to the other cases.

On May 1, 2010, Shannan Gilbert and her driver, Michael Pak, left for a client's house in Oak Beach. At 4:51 in the morning 911 dispatchers received a panicked phone call from Shannan who claimed that people were trying to kill her. She fled from the house and was last seen banging on doors of homes in the neighborhood while screaming for help. Neighbors Gus Coletti and Barbara Brennan were among the last to see her.

Shannan's 911 call had been transferred to the New York State Police, who turned the recordings over to the Suffolk County Police Department during their investigation of her death. Mari Gilbert filed a lawsuit against the Suffolk County Police Department seeking the release of the recordings and transcripts. Suffolk Police claimed releasing it would jeopardize an ongoing investigation. After a nearly decade long court battle, in May 2020 a judge ordered Suffolk County to release the recordings, which were turned over to the family's attorney, John Ray. Ray described the tapes valuable" and stated the audio conflicts with official statements from police. The recordings cannot be publicly released without another court order.

On May 13, 2022, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison held a press conference announcing the release of Shannan Gilbert's 911 call, as well as two other calls that were placed by residents of Oak Beach. The recordings were released on GilgoNews.com. They also plan to release the independent autopsy report performed by Dr. Baden. Commissioner Harrison stated:

"Based on the evidence [...] the prevailing opinion in Shannan's death, while tragic, was not a murder, and was most likely non-criminal." The videos and recordings are available in the links below.
