Our cold case database is in danger of no longer being maintained.
Sarah was a beautiful young woman who had just graduated from Washington High School and was attending classes at the local Kansas City Community College. She was driving home at 1 o'clock AM from her boyfriend's place which was just a quick, 10 or 15-minute drive away.
She left because she wanted to be up on time for her early classes that morning. Her black Mustang was found abandoned At 6 o'clock in the morning, with one door ajar and the hazard lights on under a highway overpass. Police assumed that whoever left the car was just experiencing car trouble and called for it to be taken to the impound lot.
Her body was found shortly after underneath a highway overpass, which was spotted by crewmembers of a train passing by. They thought her body was a mannequin but reported it to the police anyways. It was Sarah, who had been stabbed over 20 times in the head, neck, and chest and hit in the head with a large rock.
Decades later, a suspect is named. Five years later, in 1994, a woman named Diana Ault would be killed in her own home in nearby Independence, Missouri. Detectives piece together a common thread between Sarah and Diana- a woman named Carolyn Heckert. Carolyn was envious of Sarah Jo because she was dating her ex boyfriend, Matt Uland. Carolyn was also having an affair with Diana Ault's husband Tim.
Authorities and family members suspect that her intimidating behavior towards these women is not a coincidence, and might connect to a solid suspect. Carolyn was arrested in 2017 for suspected involvement, and her motive was allegedly to harass and intimidate Sarah.
