Excited for her date, Sage sends Erik a text at 5:17pm after she finished getting ready. The text read: “when r u leaving”
5:20PM: Erik replies to Sage's text
Erik McFadden responds to Sage's text: "I already did. I'm at the Hampton Inn"

Sage wakes up Aubrey, who was sleeping in the living room at the time, and informs her that she was leaving and would be back that evening.

Keyera Morgan, Sage's stepsister claims to have seen Sage while walking to the bus stop. Keyera claims that Sage was talking on the phone. Although she did not know who she was talking to, she claims Sage said she'd "be 'there' in five minutes"

Witness states they talked with Sage in the 400 block of West Main St. Sage tells the witness she was going to meet someone at the Amtrack station.
6:40pm: Sage is last seen walking West
Sage was last seen walking west towards the Amtrak station alone.

Aubrey wakes up and noticed Sage did not return to the apartment the night before. Sage's phone went straight to voicemail. Aubrey contacts a few friends to see if they knew her whereabouts.

Charlottesville Police Department starts their investigation
Police involved in the investigation were immediately worried about foul play. They started collecting statements from friends and family of Sage to create a timeline.
Family members login to Sage's cell phone account
Sage's last-known contact was with an unknown person with an out-of-state phone number. Dean, Sage's father, posts the number on Facebook to see if anyone recognizes it,. Yami Ortiz reaches out to Dean and informs him that the phone number belongs to Erik McFadden.

Investigators begin search for Sage
Investigators start by searching the streets and wooded areas around W. Main Street before moving on to the area surrounding Erik McFadden's apartment.
Police visit trash expert
informed police that any trash from the dumpster behing McFadden's apartment was taken to a landfill 60 miles away in Henrico County.
Esther visits police department and shares an email sent to her by Erik describing the events of the night Sage disappeared
The email sent to Esther explains that he and Sage had met that night, and while walking down the street together, theywere approached by a group of people. Erik explains that Sage had enemies, and he left before anything bad could happen. This email also explains that Sage was blackmailing him, before writing that he was going to the midwest.
Three major searches conducted by police
Police search the areas around Main St. and McFadden's apartment and nearby railroad tracks. Police use cadaver dogs who gave a "slight indication" which went nowhere. Police also search a pond nearby, which turned up empty as well. Finally, police searched the landfill in Henrico County.

Police and a forensic team search through Sage's apartmenr again. Unclear if anything was found

Police also announced that the case had been reclassified to a homicide investigation as of December 2016.
Police announce that McFadden is once again a person of interest, as a witness instead of a suspect
Police conclude that this sighting was Shakira Washington, not Sage. After interviewing Shakira, police are informed that Aubrey was not forthcoming with information. Shakira also informs police that Audrey had used Sage's food stamps and other personal items after her disappearance.
