On October 18, 2003, Rachel was last seen with friends in the parking lot behind the Elkton Volunteer Fire Department, near the Coin Laundry, off Spotswood Trail in Elkton, Virginia at around 6:00 p.m. Her friends saw her drive away in her Dodge Neon as it got dark, but she has not been heard from since. Her car was found parked at her home on Virginia Avenue in Elkton.

At the time of her disappearance, Rachel was romantically involved with a married Elkton police officer, Adam W. Williams, and he is believed to be the father of her unborn child. He was in charge of the initial investigation into her case, but was placed on paid administrative leave and resigned from the force in January 2004. Rachel's family sued Williams in a wrongful death case. Williams argued that the statute of limitations had expired and that the lawsuit fails to state a claim of wrongful act. The lawsuit, which seeks $50,000 in damages, was filed in March 2017, six months after Good's estate dropped its first wrongful death lawsuit due to a battle with the Virginia State Police over evidence.

Police also want to speak with the driver of a red truck that was seen near Rachel's home around noon on October 19, the day after her disappearance. The driver has not been identified and is not considered a suspect in her case.

In September 2004, a special grand jury was assembled to investigate Rachel's case, but no indictments were issued.

Authorities do not believe Rachel left Elkton voluntarily and believe she was murdered. However, there is little evidence in her case and investigators do not believe they can prosecute anyone until her body is found.

Rachel graduated from Fort Defiance High School and has three children. Her case remains unsolved.
