Overview of Kelley Louise Henderson Howard
Around noon on June 2, 2009, 41-year-old Kelley Howard was talking to her mother on the phone while the Riverside Family Dentistry office was closed for lunch. During their conversation, someone approached the office door and Kelley asked her mother to hold on a moment while she answered. She never returned to the phone and hasn't been heard from since.
Kelley was last seen leaving Riverside Family Dentistry on Highway 78 in Riverside, AL, around 1:00 p.m. on June 2, 2009. Authorities found Kelley's car in the parking lot of the office, and her keys were found in a plastic bag that had been left in a kudzu patch next to the office. In 2012, Riverside Police Chief Rick Oliver stated investigators had discovered Kelley's phone had been used between 12:50 and 1:10 in Talledega County.
The day prior to her disappearance, unbeknownst to her husband, Kelley reportedly requested three days off of work for a short vacation.
Dr. Rick Mitchell, the owner of Riverside Family Dentistry, was later indicted on charges of insurance fraud, money laundering, and identity theft. While Kelley's disappearance has never officially been linked to these charges, her family believes the two could be related.
Kelley's phone, bank accounts and credit cards have been not been used since June 2, 2009. Although Kelley was legally declared deceased in 2014, she continues to be listed as an active endangered missing person in the ALEA database and her case remains unsolved over 13 years later.
