lya Lomov departed from his home in Livermore, California and traveled to Kauai in Hawaii on December 24, 2012, intending to return home on January 9. He last spoke to his wife on December 27 and had plans to go camping during his trip. Lomov was an avid outdoorsman and had a camping permit that was valid from December 29 through January 3.

Lomov's last known location was camping in the Kalalau Valley on January 2, 2013. After he failed to return home as planned, his family reported him missing on January 9. Despite an extensive search, no trace of Lomov has been found, and his disappearance remains unsolved.
