After graduating high school, Elaine enrolled at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA, though she had stopped attending classes in January of 2017. She had recently been laid off from her restaurant job, and is known to have previously struggled with bouts of depression.

Elaine visited her former boyfriend on the night of January 27, 2017.

Elaine left her mother’s home to go visit her former boyfriend, Divine, at his parent’s home in Calabasas, CA. The pair decided to go see a movie at the AMC Promenade in Woodland Hills, CA, before they returned to his family’s home shortly before 1:00 am the following morning.

Sometime around 4:00 am on the morning of January 28, 2017, Elaine woke up and suffered from a panic attack. Divine reported that he tried calming Elaine down and he tried to convince her to stay at his home where she was safe until she calmed down. These attempts were unsuccessful, and Elaine decided to leave.

Elaine was seen for the last time on surveillance footage.

At 6:05 am, Elaine was seen on surveillance footage leaving Divine’s home and walking to her car, a dark gray 2015 Honda Civic, which was parked near his home inside of a gated community. From the footage, however, authorities were unable to determine whether it was Elaine, or someone else, getting into her car. This is the last time Elaine was officially seen on the morning of her disappearance.

At 7:14 am, Elaine’s car was seen on surveillance footage yet again, driving toward the front gates and exiting the gated community. The Find Elaine Park website notes that daylight savings time and whether the camera had been updated previously came into question during the investigation. If the camera's clock was wrong, the correct time would have been 6:14 am, but this has not been confirmed. If this does not explain the time, there is over an hour of footage, from 6:05 am to 7:14 am, that is unaccounted for.

Five days later, Elaine’s car was found abandoned in Malibu, CA.

On February 2, 2017, Elaine’s car was found abandoned on the side of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, CA, opposite the Malibu Beach RV Park. The car doors were found to be unlocked and her keys were found in the ignition, which had been left in the "on" position. Inside, authorities found Elaine's iPhone 7, her older, broken iPhone 6, her driver's license, laptop, black backpack, blue duffel bag, her makeup, and $37 in cash.

“It is suspicious in the way that we found her car, her cellphone and things, in the manner we did. We can’t rule foul play in or out because, plain and simple, we don’t have any evidence to do so.” -Sgt. Robert William, Glendale Police Department.
