Overview of Diamonique Lewis

Not much information can be found online about Diamonique Lewis, but she was only 26 years old with two young children when she and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Louis Brooks were murdered in their home.

On Thursday evening, April 23, 2015, Louis, who often stayed with Diamonique and her two children, was home that evening. Diamonique had recently moved from Dallas to New Orleans and hadn't lived in the apartment very long. Jose Cabrera, who lived next door to Diamonique, stated that he heard gunshots around 10:30 p.m. and saw two men running away from the house. Another neighbor commented that she often heard Louis and Diamonique fighting, so when she heard loud noises around 11 p.m. that evening and the sound of children crying, she didn't think anything over than that they were fighting again. However, she mentioned hearing loud banging as if "someone was banging on the wall with a hammer." Eventually, the loud noise subsided, and she wasn't awakened until 3 a.m. the following day.

There are conflicting reports on how or why the authorities were dispatched to the 13600 block of Granville Street in New Orleans East. One report states officers were responding to a shooting around 3 a.m., and another states they were sent to check on the occupants who lived in the apartments around 3 a.m. Whatever the reason they showed up early morning, they found Louis and Diamonique lying on the floor, dead from multiple gunshot wounds, including to the head. It is unclear exactly when Louis and Diamonique were murdered due to the various witness statements. In addition, it is unclear whether or not the children were in the home at the time of the murders.

Investigators are still looking for possible suspects and motives, and no arrests have been made. This case is still open.
