Overview of Daniel Holling

Daniel Lee Holling was a 36 year old man living in Virginia, MN at the time of disappearance.

Daniel was described as being highly sociable and talkative and often non confrontational. He would rather talk out differences or disagreements rather than fight over them. Daniel loved singing karaoke and playing in pool and darts leagues at local bars in Virginia, MN. He worked seasonally at a resort in Babbitt, MN as a handyman and collected unemployment checks for the remainder of the year that he did not work a stable job.

Daniel vanished without a trace in February of 2003.

Daniel spoke with his parents for the last time on the phone in mid-January of 2003. According to his parents, Daniel was struggling financially at the time. On February 10, 2003, Daniel picked up and signed his last unemployment check, but strangely, he did not reapply to receive another check for the following month. He is believed to have last been seen on February 14, 2003 visiting various taverns on Chestnut Street in Virginia, MN. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Concern grows in the following month.

In March of 2003, as Daniel’s start date for his seasonal job quickly approached, Daniel’s employer visited his home after he tried calling him, only to be met with a message that the phone number had been disconnected. Somehow, he was able to find a way into the home, but nothing seems to be missing or out of place. The home looked as if no one had been there in weeks, according to reports. On March 23, 2003, Daniel’s employer contacted Daniel’s parents to inform them about his difficulty getting in contact with their son. Concern began to quickly grow after his parents were continuously unable to get in contact with Daniel. He was reported missing in late March of 2003 by his parents.

"Daniel's employer was trying to get a hold of him because he was to start work at the resort on April 1. He said the phone had been disconnected and when he went to Daniel's house there were no footprints in the snow". - David Holling, Daniel’s father.

Where the case stands today.

Daniel has not been seen or heard from in more than 19 years. Daniel’s parents believe that he was met with foul play, but authorities believe that it’s likely that he is deceased, not necessarily that he met with foul play. If you have any information regarding Daniel's disappearance or his whereabouts, please contact the Virginia Police Department at (218) 748-7510.

“We don’t know where he’s at. But it’s definitely likely after all this time that it’s 90 percent or more certainty that he’s dead. Not 100 percent, but in the 90’s.” - Virginia Police Detective Dennis Benz.

At the time of his disappearance in 2003, Daniel was described as a 36 year old caucasian man with black hair and brown eyes. He was 6’2” tall and weighed approximately 175 lbs. Daniel walks with a limp, has dark circles under his eyes, and has scars above both eyes, and under his chin, under his left eye. He also has surgical scars on his left foot, the bridge of his nose, and his right ring finger. He also has a pierced nipple. He was wearing a gold ring with a 1/4 carat blue-green radiated diamond at the time of his disappearance. Today, he would be 56 years old.

“We aren’t out to hold anyone responsible if it was foul play. Our issue is to know for sure what happened and where. That’s all we’re pleading for … to have someone come forward and say what they know. Just go to a phone booth, out of town or out of state, and call anonymously to tell authorities where he’s located … where he was dumped.” - Patricia Holling, Daniel’s mother.
