Middle of the night: Courtney seen attempting to leave the home
Neighbors recall seeing Courtney attempting to leave the house of her adoptive mother. She was carrying a duffel bag. Adoptive mother, Judy Holden, chased after Courtney, but Courtney responded, "I'm not staying here anymore." Her adoptive brother, Joshua Holden, was then seen physically carrying Courtney back into the residence.

On the same day as the missing persons report was filed for Courtney, Joshua and Judy withdrew $600 out of Courtney's bank account.

During the day : A woman calls the crime tip line claiming to be Courtney
A woman called the crime line claiming to be Courtney. It was found that the woman who called was Courtney's adoptive sister. She has never revealed why she pretended to be Courtney.
Judy Holden allowed police to enter her home.
Judy Holden allowed the Spokane detectives to enter her house. They said that she appeared nervous and freaked out when she lost sign of one of the police officers. The house was found to be extremely cluttered and messy. Courtney's room appeared to be unlived in and the bed was bare. Judy did not allow the detectives to search Courtney's son's bedroom. The police were asked to leave shortly after they entered the residence.

Search warrant executed
Police arrived at the Holden's residence to execute a search warrant., but found that Judy and Joshua Holden had taken their pets and the DVR holding the security footage. During the search warrant 82 pieces of evidence were discovered: ID cards, computers, 18 cell phones,, blackmail notes, and a missing persons journal.
Judy and Joshua's phones were deactivated and new phones were activated with Texas area codes.
On the same day that Judy and Joshua's associated phones were deactivated, new phones were activated with Texas area codes. This gave the Spokane detectives an idea as to where they were located.

Joshua and Judy Holden were arrested.
With the help of local police departments, Judy and Joshua were arrested and charged with identity theft and custodial interference. They were questioned about Courtney's disappearance and neither gave any more information. Nothing was found regarding Courtney's disappearance.
