Constance (Connie) Hiner had recently celebrated her 28th birthday that December. Connie was a fierce businesswoman and was ready to start a new chapter. She was about to begin a new job after taking a year-long sabbatical. Previously she worked through the ranks with the National Housing Partnership where she worked to develop and operate low-income housing before she became senior vice president of finance. 

The day Connie was discovered murdered. On January 2, 1996, Connie was supposed to wake up, and catch a flight to Columbus, Ohio where she was set to begin a new job as a chief operating officer of a real estate trust. The job would require her to travel each week from Reston, VA to Columbus, Ohio but it was her dream job. Her husband, Bob left the home at 7:10 am to go to work. An hour later, Connie had scheduled a taxi cab service to take her to the airport. By 8:00 am, the taxi driver arrived at Connie's home located at the 1600 block of Woodstock Lane. The cab driver rang the doorbell, knocked, and even used his car phone in an attempt to make contact with Connie to no avail. The cab driver assumed that she got another ride and never canceled. 

By noon that same day, Bob had returned home for lunch. It was then he had discovered that Connie had been murdered. Connie was found face-down and nude. It was evident that she had been bludgeoned and police believe she was attacked as a result of a crime of passion. Police also noted that there was no sign of forced entry. A short time later, Connie’s daughter, Brittany who was living in California was informed about her mother’s death. The autopsy would be done on January 3, 1996, and no sign of sexual assault would be found. 

Connie’s murder was shocking to her family, but even more so to her community. The Reston community was known for being quiet, wealthy, and rather tranquil. The suburban neighborhood was known for being safe.

Where the case stands today. Sadly, there is not much publicly available information about Connie’s case. Her daughter and her family are still seeking justice for Connie’s murder. While a few people have been considered a suspect there have been no official announcements by law enforcement and no arrests.
