Overview of Christopher Harvey

Christopher James Harvey was last seen on July 11, 1984 at his family’s summer home.

On the afternoon of July 11, 1984, Christopher left his family’s summer trailer in a mobile home park at the edge of the San Juan National Forest in Hinsdale County, CO to visit a friend down the road at around 3:00 pm. While visiting, Christopher and his friend discuss a band camp that he is planning to attend later in the summer.

After visiting his friend, Christopher returned to his family’s trailer to get his dog before taking him on a walk in the woods. Though the dog returned shortly after, Christopher never returned from the walk.

The search for Christopher began the next day.

The following day around 12:00 pm, the official search for Christopher began. Officials initially believed that Christopher got lost while hiking in the woods. Even though he was known to be a skilled backpacker, he did not have the necessary supplies with him to be gone for an extended period of time. Extensive searches of the area where Christopher was last seen had been conducted following his disappearance by both local and state law enforcement agencies as well as volunteers from the community. Nothing of Christopher was ever found during any search.

Christopher’s family quickly traveled back to Colorado to see if this teenage boy was their son. When they arrived it was determined that it was not Christopher, but instead was 18 year old Scott Yoos, who had vanished while on a hitchhiking across the country.
