Overview of Christopher Harvey
Christopher James Harvey was last seen on July 11, 1984 at his family’s summer home.
On the afternoon of July 11, 1984, Christopher left his family’s summer trailer in a mobile home park at the edge of the San Juan National Forest in Hinsdale County, CO to visit a friend down the road at around 3:00 pm. While visiting, Christopher and his friend discuss a band camp that he is planning to attend later in the summer.
After visiting his friend, Christopher returned to his family’s trailer to get his dog before taking him on a walk in the woods. Though the dog returned shortly after, Christopher never returned from the walk.
The search for Christopher began the next day.
The following day around 12:00 pm, the official search for Christopher began. Officials initially believed that Christopher got lost while hiking in the woods. Even though he was known to be a skilled backpacker, he did not have the necessary supplies with him to be gone for an extended period of time. Extensive searches of the area where Christopher was last seen had been conducted following his disappearance by both local and state law enforcement agencies as well as volunteers from the community. Nothing of Christopher was ever found during any search.
A teenage boy is found badly beaten on a mountain road.
Six weeks after Christopher vanished, a teenage boy is found half-conscious on a remote mountain road near Gypsum, CO. According to Eagle County officials, he had been the victim of a severe beating. Authorities announce that they are searching for two suspects.
Christopher’s family quickly traveled back to Colorado to see if this teenage boy was their son. When they arrived it was determined that it was not Christopher, but instead was 18 year old Scott Yoos, who had vanished while on a hitchhiking across the country.
Where the case stands today.
Today it has been more than 38 years since Christopher vanished near the San Juan National Forest in Hinsdale County, CO. When he vanished, he was only 14 years old, today he would be 53 years old.
At the time of his disappearance, Christopher was described as a 14 year old caucasian male with light brown hair and hazel eyes. He stood 5’11” tall and weighed approximately 135 lbs. Christopher has moles on both arms and on the upper right side of his chest. He may use the nickname "Chris". He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved brown plaid shirt, a pair of blue jeans, a leather Western-style belt with the inscription “Chris” on the buckle, red laced Nike hiking shoes, and a black digital wrist watch.
