On 10/03/19, the harbor master turned personal effects belonging to Carl Steffler into police found at the end of the cat walk at the Kaunakakai Pier at approximately 0600 hours. Police then received a call from Steffler's social worker advising that she has not seen him all day and there is growing concern for his safety. Checks at his residence revealed it was intact. A neighbor reported hearing Steffler moving around up stairs at approximately 0100 hours. Checks of Kaunakakai Harbor surveillance camera revealed on this day at approximately 0330 hours a man matching Steffler's physical description walks to the end of the cat walk, sets items down, gets into the water and swims (south) toward the harbor opening until he is out of camera view. The cameras do not show him returning. Items set on the pier was the same location his personal items were recovered at 0600 hours. Steffler was possibly wearing a bright green shirt and unknown color shorts.
