Overview of Amber Spradlin
Amber Spradlin was only 39 years old at the time of her death and it rattled her local community. Amber experienced a lot of hardship growing up, having lost both of her parents at a young age and raised by her grandparents, whom she admired. She also lost her sister in a tragic car accident. Those who knew Amber describe her as kind-hearted, compassionate and good-natured person.
The details surrounding her death are quite puzzling and some what limited. To date, her family is still working alongside Kentucky State Police and with their family lawyer as the investigation is still active and ongoing.
Here is what we do know:
On June 17, 2023, Amber went to work at a local brewhouse where she was working as a waitress and hostess. It is believed she may have been working there for approximately one year. After her shift, she went to a local hotel, Seasons Inn, with a few friends. It’s unclear how long they were at the hotel. At some point, the group returns back to the home of dentist, Dr. Michael McKinney. Interestingly, the establishment where Amber was working is also owned by the local dentist.
In the early morning hours of June 18, 2023, a 9-11 call is made from inside the home, however, no emergency response is ever deployed. In a later report, it would be discovered that due to a recent change in the county's dispatching system, Floyd County opted to switch its emergency 911 services from state police to a dispatching center run by the city government of Prestonsburg.
Around 10 AM another call would be made by Dr. Michael McKinney calls 9-11 to "report a young female was lying dead in his Floyd County home.” Law enforcement did not arrive at the scene until a Kentucky State Police detective contacted a Floyd County deputy. Amber was announced deceased at the scene. Amber was stabbed 11 times in her head, check and neck area. There were five people at the home at the time of Amber's death.
Amber’s death was violent. According to her cousin and advocate, Debbie Hall “She was stabbed not once, not twice, not three times...she was stabbed eleven times in her head, her neck and her throat,"
Interestingly, 5 individuals were inside the home of Dr. Michael McKinney on the morning Amber was found deceased. However, the names of those individuals have not been made public at this time.
While the investigation is ongoing, the family has created “Justice for Amber” billboards and a Facebook group titled “Justice For Amber”.
