On September 20, 2004 around 7:00PM, a rancher discovered a newborn infant girl laying on some brush on County Road 448 near Highways 90 and 173, just north of Hondo, Texas. There were no signs of trauma to the child. Named "Baby Hope Medina," the infant was born alive, according to an autopsy, but it could not be determined if she was alive when placed on the side of the road. However, it was determined that she had been abandoned within six hours of being found by the rancher. She was buried in the Hondo Cemetery with over 200 people attending her funeral service.
