Overview of Tyarra Williams

Tyarra Williams was only 19 years old when she seemingly walked away from her life. Tyarra Williams was kind, nurturing, and had a big heart. She had decided in her junior year of high school that she wanted to work with children, specifically those with special needs as she felt like she could give them the love and compassion they deserve. Her parents were divorced and she had a younger brother who she was very protective of.

During Tyarra’s senior year of high school, she moved in with her grandmother who lived at the Stoneybrook Apartment Complex as a means of becoming more independent. When she graduated high school, she took a gap year. By December 2015, she was ready to go to college and had registered at Guilford Technical Community College for early childhood development and education.

On the morning of January 7, 2016, Tyarra went to Guilford Technical Community College to get her student ID and register for classes that were set to start the following week. Later that day she returned home to her mother, Danielle’s apartment. Tyarra and her mother made plans to do some back-to-school shopping and get textbooks the next day. By 6:00 pm, Tyarra, her brother, and her mom dismantled the Christmas tree together. Tyarra’s boyfriend, Aaron stopped by and they all had dinner together and were watching TV. At 8:30 pm, Aaron, Tyarra, and her brother leave Danielle’s apartment. Tyarra is last seen in the parking lot of the apartment complex with her boyfriend and her brother. Tyarra told Aaron that she was going to meet a friend, Travis, who lived within the apartment complex. She told Aaron that she would be back in an hour. Tyarra did not drive, therefore she left on foot.

Aaron recalls not hearing the name Travis before but didn’t question it. Tyarra went to meet with Travis while Aaron and her brother went to Aaron’s home to play video games. By 9:30 pm. Aaron returned back to Tyarra’s grandmother’s apartment but Tyarra had not yet returned. He tried calling and texting her but she was not responding. The next day, he stopped by the apartment again and Tyarra had still not returned home. Aaron informed Tyarra’s grandmother who then tried calling Tyarra. When she didn’t pick up, she got worried. Tyarra’s grandmother contacted Danielle and noticed that Tyarra left her purse behind. Aaron mentioned to Danielle that Tyarra told him she was going to meet a friend named Travis - a name her family did not recognize. Danielle logged into Tyarra’s Facebook and it was discovered that “Travis” was an alias for her ex-boyfriend, whose name has never been released.

By 8:00 pm that evening, Danielle reported Tyarra missing to the Greensboro Police Department. A search was conducted in the surrounding area of the Stoneybrook Apartment Complex but no new information was found. When authorities interviewed “Travis,” he told police that the two sat and talked in his car for about a half-hour, and then she left. Police examined “Travis’s” car, but no new information was discovered.

Tyarra’s case is considered an ‘endangered’ missing persons case which is being handled by the Crimes Against Persons Squad within the Greensboro Police Department. Her family remains hopeful for her return.
