With 12 witnesses, names spoken, and rumors swirling, why hasn't there been an arrest in Trevor Baldwin's 2014 murder?

Trevor was a graduate of the First Flight High School in Dare County, North Carolina, where the played football and lacrosse. His family says he was loving, sporty, funny, and incredibly talkative. Trevor and his older brother, Troy, were only 14 months apart in age. They were “tight as two ticks,” his mother, Melinda Baldwin, shared with the Suffolk News-Herald.

Baldwin attended Shenandoah University after graduating high school and made the football team there, but left the college afterward.

He has been working for his dad’s business since the family recently moved to Suffolk. He had a girlfriend at the time. She said Trevor was thinking about joining a local men’s lacrosse league, and was looking forward to meeting new people.

Trevor was supposed to be home between 9:30-10:00pm so when he didn't make it back, his parents started to worry. Within that timeframe, his parents get a heartbreaking call from their son, Troy.

Troy said he heard from the police that Trevor was in an accident on Dunedin Drive in Chesapeake. Troy mentions that Trevor was shot.

After hearing that Trevor was hurt, his parents rushed to the scene. His mother, Melinda, says those moments still stick with her.

“I had a gut feeling something was wrong, but your whole word falls apart,” Baldwin told Wavy.com. “Those are pieces you can’t pick back up and put together.”

Trevor was found slumped behind the wheel of his car, a silver 1996 Buick, which hit a tree near the intersection of Tasman Court and Dunedin Drive. One shot went through his left arm and into his chest, killing him instantly. The killer was so close to Trevor that investigators said the gun was right up to his skin.

In the hours and days after Trevor's killing, locals started whispering the names of potential suspects.

The Baldwin family quickly started hearing rumors about a dozen witnesses who saw what happened, and names started circulating. Names, the family says are the same names that are in nearly all of the tips that the Chesapeake police received.

But, the police haven't announced a suspect — or arrested a single person.

When journalists asked to sit down with the police, they declined, citing pre-trial publicity concerns. Journalists responded saying there won't be a trial if no one is arrested.
