In the early morning hours of June 6th, 1984, Betty Marler goes to work at the Waffle House to start her 7 AM shift. Her daughter, Sherry is sleeping on the couch because a family member is in town visiting.

After waking up, Sherry decides to accompany her stepfather, Raymond, to downtown Greenville to run errands. Raymond, also known as Ray, has to go into town to extend a farm loan at a local bank, and has to fix a combine afterwards.

At approximately 9:30am, Sherry is last seen in downtown Greenville, Alabama. She is with her stepfather at First National Bank. Her stepfather gives her a dollar to buy a soda and she is last seen crossing the street heading towards the Chevron gas station.

Fifteen minutes later, Sherry's stepfather returns to his pickup truck, expecting Sherry to be waiting for him, but she is gone.

After 25 more minutes of looking for Sherry, Raymond calls his wife, Betty to see if Sherry had gone to Waffle House. But Betty reported that she hadn't seen Sherry. Sherry is nicknamed "Little Farmer" and loves to hang around stores that sold farming equipment. Raymond checks these stores as well, and no one had seen Sherry. It is unlike her to not return to Raymond's car as she is the kind of kid who did what she is told.

Almost an hour after Sherry is last seen, her family officially files a missing persons report. Volunteers and law enforcement would conduct land and air searches in hopes of finding Sherry, but she is never found. Since she went missing, witnesses report seeing Sherry on three different occasions. Sherry's mother does not believe her husband is involved in her daughter's disappearance. Each time she is seen with a man, described to be "50 years old, 5'8" tall, husky in size, weathered complexion and crow's feet around the eyes." One witness claims she is seen near a truck stop near Conley, Georgia.

Detective Mark Booker of the Greenville Police Department begins delivering photographs of Sherry to local tv stations in an effort to raise awareness for her disappearance.

Within a month of Sherry's disappearance, a $2,000 reward is offered for information about Sherry's disappearance.

According to Sherry's mother, a potential sighting of Sherry is reported a few days before Christmas of 1984 at a shopping mall in New Orleans, LA. This sighting remains unconfirmed.

Sherry's case is highlighted in the tv show 'Missing III: Have You Seen This Person?', to help raise awareness for her disappearance. The show leads to several tips being submitted to investigators. According to officials, one tip included information about a potential, unconfirmed sighting of Sherry at 'Sammy's Go Go Lounge' in Birmingham, AL. Another tipster from Boston, MA informed police that they recognize a composite sketch of a man believed to be seen with Sherry. Additional sightings of Sherry that have been reported to officials since her disappearance include a truck stop in Dubuque, IA, on interstate 65 near Grand Bay, AL, Memphis, TN, New Orleans, LA, Meridian, MS, and Conley, GA. None of these sightings have been confirmed.
