According to the Craig Daily Press, Shane was having dinner with his girlfriend that evening that he went missing. A man phoned identifying himself as a Park Ranger saying that he was contacting Shane regarding a report about problems at Highline State Park. Shane went out to speak with him and was never seen again. His girlfriend's ex-boyfriend had worked as a park ranger and is presumed responsible. He has since passed away.
