Overview of Ramone Daley
Ramone Daley, a 22-year-old man, was fatally shot near his home on Floyd Street in Dorchester early last Saturday morning, as reported by the Boston police. According to WCVB-TV, Daley was on his way to work at Logan International Airport when the shooting occurred. Despite being transported to Boston Medical Center, he died later that afternoon. As of press time, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Daley was a former METCO student who began his education in Lexington at the age of seven. He attended Estabrook Elementary, Diamond Middle School, and Lexington High School before graduating from the Noonan Business Academy in Dorchester. During his time in the Lexington schools, he made an impact on many people in the community.
Cheryl Prescott-Walden, former METCO Director in Lexington for 24 years, spoke highly of Daley, saying, "Ramone was a beautiful child. We will not ever forget Ramone. He was just one of those kids who was a gentle soul. My heart is broken. We will miss him dearly." She added, "I pray that the law enforcement officials help the family find some justice."
Current METCO Director George Saxon also had positive things to say about Daley, whom he remembered from a seventh-grade math class at Diamond. Saxon described Daley as "very even tempered" and someone who "got along with everyone. I don't remember any problems ever."
Several current METCO students at Lexington High School, who rode the bus with Daley during their elementary school years, have visited Saxon's office for information and reassurance following the tragic news. As the investigation continues, many in the community mourn the loss of Ramone Daley and hope for justice for his family.
