Kelsie Schelling Disappearance: A Disturbing Mystery

Kelsie Schelling vanished under mysterious circumstances in Pueblo, Colorado, on February 5, 2013. The day before, she had shared ultrasound images of her pregnancy with family members and her boyfriend, Donthe Isiah Lucas, who was the father of her unborn child.

Lucas urged Schelling to drive from her Denver residence to his Pueblo home for a private conversation and a gift. She departed at 8:30 p.m. and seemingly arrived at the predetermined location. Schelling texted Lucas while waiting for him, eventually threatening to return home due to fatigue. She was driving a black 2011 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ at the time.

Police interviewed Lucas on February 15, who claimed that he met Schelling, drove her around in her car, and took her to Parkview Medical Center when she felt unwell. He alleged that they later went to Canon National Bank and Wal-Mart, where they argued, prompting Schelling's decision to return to Denver.

Lucas was arrested and charged with identity theft and theft for using Schelling's debit card, but the charges were later dropped. There was no record of Schelling receiving treatment at Parkview Medical Center, and surveillance footage did not show her entering the hospital or inside the car at the bank.

Security footage from a local Wal-Mart revealed Schelling's car being left in the parking lot overnight, with Lucas walking to his mother's vehicle. An unknown male wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, and gloves retrieved the car the next morning. It was later found abandoned at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo on February 14, with various items missing.

Schelling and Lucas met while attending Northeastern Junior College before transferring to different universities. Schelling eventually moved back to Denver, and Lucas visited her over Christmas break, resulting in her pregnancy. Schelling confided to her mother that Lucas was not happy about the pregnancy, sometimes threatening to take the baby away from her.

Lucas was arrested in November 2017 on unrelated aggravated robbery charges. In December, while still in custody, he was charged with first-degree murder in Schelling's case. Her body has not been found, but after a nearly five-year investigation, Lucas was convicted of all charges in March 2021 and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Schelling left all her belongings at her apartment and made no indication of wanting to disappear. Her phone battery died on February 7, and there has been no activity on her bank accounts, phone, or social media since her disappearance. Foul play is suspected due to the circumstances surrounding her case.
