Do you know what happened to Katya?
Our cold case database is in danger of no longer being maintained.
Katya Lyne, a professional model, disappeared in 1997 after a disagreement with her father. She had been living alone with him in Federal Way, Washington when she left home on March 21, 1997, after the argument over school grades. Her father reported her missing the next day when he realized she was gone. She left behind personal items including her shoe lifts, Social Security card, and dental retainer.
Four days after her disappearance, Katya's father, Pat Lyne, took his own life, leaving authorities to theorize that Katya may have returned home and discovered the tragic scene, prompting her to flee. However, there is no evidence to suggest that she was abused by either of her parents or was involved in gangs. There have been unconfirmed sightings of Katya in the Puyallup, Seattle, and Midway areas of Washington.
Katya's mother was suffering from breast cancer, and she had an older sister who was in college in 1997. Katya had changed schools frequently and had many problems with her parents. Despite extensive searches and unconfirmed sightings over the years, her case remains unsolved.
