Jovanna was last seen on June 5th, 1981 wearing a blue and white jumpsuit. She was only 21 months old and weighed about 30 pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes. She sometimes would go by her middle name "Stacey" and alternative spellings of her name are "Jovonna".

Before her mother, Mary Corbin went to work, she asked her boyfriend at the time, Ronald Garrett to watch Jovanna until her grandmother, Mary Moales could pick her up. Mary Corbin lived in the same housing complex as her grandmother, Mary Moales. It was common for Jovanna to be babysat by her great grandparents and her grandparents. However, on June 5th, 1981, a young black boy around 10-11 years with small braids in his hair knocked on Mary Corbin's door. The young boy told Ronald Garrett that Mary Moales asked him to bring the child to her house. However, Mary Moales never asked the young boy or met him prior.

A few days later, Ronald Garrett was arrested for felony risk of injury of a minor for giving the two year old to the unidentified boy. He was sentenced to one year in jail, but still maintains the story and description of the young boy. No further information has been reported and the boy was never identified.
