34 year old shot and killed while helping a friend
Our cold case database is in danger of no longer being maintained.
Clarence A. Becknell Jr., aka Dudie, a military veteran, was only 34 years old when he was shot and killed. Family and friends described him as having a great sense of humor, loved to joke around, and never met a stranger. Reading over the more than 140 entries made on his obituary page, you can feel how much he was loved and will be missed by all. Clarence, Sr., said the authorities told him that Clarence Jr. was trying to help a friend, bringing a friend home, and it wasn't meant for him; it was meant for someone else. Nonetheless, a man who was loved by so many was taken too soon.
On Friday, 06/27/2014, around 12:50 that morning, Clarence pulled up to a red light at the Franklin Avenue off-ramp of I-10 West in New Orleans, LA. While stopped at the light in his silver Mercedes convertible, a gunman walked up and opened fire, striking Clarence multiple times. The suspects then drove off in an unidentified vehicle. Clarence was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are still looking for possible suspects and motives, and no arrests have been made. This case is still open.
