Overview of Cindy Gingerich
Sometime after 11:30 p.m. on September 7, 1994, while her two children were asleep, 26-year-old Cindy Gingerich was shot to death outside her Sumiton home on Main Street.
Although Cindy and her husband Ed were separated at the time of her death, he has continued to push for answers for their two children.
In 2021, Ed told ABC 3340 he had passed two polygraph tests and would continue asking for the answers.
In preparation for the story, ABC 33/40 tried to speak with Walker County Sheriff's Office for seven months to discuss Cindy's case, but they received no interest or information to help with the story.
In that same interview, Ed and Cindy's parents told ABC 33/40 they believed they knew who did it and it was someone Cindy had been seeing who had left threatening phone messages. They felt those messages should be part of the investigative files. They also said investigators told them early on they had a suspect in mind but not enough evidence to file charges.
Walker County DA Bill Adair later told ABC 33/40 Cindy's file and personal belongings had been located and they had met with one family member to go over the case. He also stated the investigation was considered open.
In 1994, then Gov. Folsom announced a $7,500 reward for information in the case, a reward that Gov. Ivey's office confirmed to ABC 33/40 was still available until the case was solved.
