In the fall of 1969, Cesnik was teaching drama and English at Archbishop Keough High School in Baltimore, Maryland. This was a private Catholic school for girls opened in 1965.

On Friday, Sister Cathy leaves the apartment she shared with Helen Russell Phillips to go to the Edmondson Village Shopping Center.

When Sister Catherine didn't return by 11:00pm, Sister Helen became so worried she placed frantic call to Father Koob and Mr. McKeon who came racing over.

At 4:40am the next morning, friends Peter McKeon and Gerard J. Koob found Sister Cathy's car, muddy, and illegally parked across from her apartment complex. Other residents say they saw the car there earlier, as early as 8:30pm. There is no sign of Sister Cathy.

Sister Cathy's body was found by a hunter and his son in an informal landfill area located on the 2100 block of Monumental Road, in a remote area of Landsdowne. Only locals know this area exists.

The body of Joyce Malecki, 20, is discovered. Some believe Joyce and Sister Cathy's homicides are connected. Joyce was found with her hands tied behind her back and with scratches and bruises on her body, indicating she had struggled with her assailant. She was found on federal property, so the FBI has taken jurisdiction.
