Billie Jo Hughes was last seen on July 6, 2000, at an intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 20 in Pelzer, South Carolina after visiting friends in Williamston. She was seen walking towards a pay phone and has never been heard from again.

Hughes lived with her mother in Williamston at the time of her disappearance, and her mother initially thought she had gone on a trip to the beach with a friend, but this turned out to be false.

Hughes didn't take any personal belongings and had always taken care of her mother, who is blind and disabled, and checked in on her daily. Her case is considered suspicious and remains unsolved.
