18-month-old Amir Jennings was seen on November 23, 2011 in Columbia, South Carolina with his mother, Zinah Jennings. Although last seen by his grandmother, Jocelyn, his father, Roderick, and on surveillance video on November 23, 2011, Amir and his mother were not reported missing until December 8, 2011 by his grandmother.
Police are not able to locate Amir or Zinah until December 24, 2011, when Zinah crashes her car, Amir was not with her. Upon further discussions with the mother, she would be arrested for 'unlawful conduct' and 'cruelty to children' when she refuses to tell police Amir's whereabouts. After her arrest, Zinah tells investigators multiple stories about her son's whereabouts, including being with friends in North Carolina and later Georgia, and even telling investigators that he was with a man named 'Ernest Robinson,' who does not exist.
On January 2, 2012, Zinah leads police to an apartment complex where she claimed that she dropped Amir off, however she could not remember which building or which apartment she had left him at. Further into the investigation, police receive a warrant to search Zinah's house and car, where they discover various items of evidence, indicating possible foul play in Amir's disappearance. In her car they find a blanket and clothing with Amir's blood on them, and in the backyard of the home they find a shovel, which a witness states Zinah had spent time in her backyard with the shovel around the time Amir went missing.
Zinah was convicted in September of 2012 for the charges in connection with the disappearance of Amir Jennings, and sentenced to 10-years in prison. Zinah would only serve 4-years of her sentence, and was released in 2016, and Amir remains missing.
Amir is described as African-American, with brown hair and brown eyes. Amir had four to six teeth at the time of his disappearance, and had a gap between his upper front teeth. Amir was around 18-months old at the time of his disappearance in 2011, 2'2 tall, and weighed around 25lbs. He was last seen on 11/23/2011, wearing a black bomber jacket and black K-Swiss brand sneakers. Today, Amir would be 11 years old. There is currently a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the whereabouts of Amir Jennings.
