Overview of 2009 Gwinnett County John Doe
On July 16, 2009, a torso belonging to a Hispanic male was discovered in a wooded area in Buford, Georgia. Residents of the area were on a walk, smelled a foul odor and reported it to the police.
Among illegally dumped trash and tires, investigators found a torso inside a shower curtain and trash bags. On the body was a pair of plaid Tommy Hilfiger boxer-style shorts, orange and yellow with light green, red, and dark blue stripes. The waistband is a faded blue to gray, size L, tag labeled #77806 CA#20781LIN-LES.
And then on January 5, 2012, hunters were walking through a wooded area when they located a skull. A search of the area revealed additional skeletal remains, including long bones. The skull was found with a large wound, indicating that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, indicative of homicidal violence.
Gwinnett County's Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Carol Terry, was able to fracture match the long bones with those of the torso. This match was later confirmed by DNA profiling.
