The Devil on Trial is a new Netflix documentary that explores the one and only time that “demonic possession” was ever used as a legal defense!
After David Glatzel told his family he was afraid he was possessed, his mother contacted paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren (you may recognize their names from The Conjuring!).
However, during the exorcism, David, who was only 11 at the time, displayed extreme distress. In response to his pain, his brother-in-law Arne Johnson, 19, shouted at the spirit to “Leave this kid alone! Take me on, I’m here, take me on!”
Soon after, Arne was arrested for killing his landlord. Once he was arraigned for the murder, Arne only said one thing: “The Devil made me do it.”
