Overview of Susan Wickersham

Susan Wickersham was a 17-year-old girl living in Bend, Oregon. She had just finished her junior year at Bend High School.

In 1973, Bend, Oregon was known as a sleepy town with a population of approximately 37,000 people. There was one high school and everyone knew everyone in town. The residents of Bend were trusting and felt safe. This was also a time when hitchhiking was common because people believed in the goodness of others. In July 1973, this trust was shattered for the small town of Bend.

On July 11th, 1973 at 11:30 pm, Susan dropped the family car off at the restaurant her mother was working at the time. She left to wait across the street for her friends to pick her up to drive her home. When they didn’t arrive, she decided to walk home, and she was never seen alive again.

On January 20, 1976, Susan's skeletal remains were found in the woods by a man collecting firewood. She was found only a few miles south of Bend. The police have an unnamed person of interest but not enough evidence to prosecute. They are hoping for the public to provide new information linking the suspect to Susan's murder.
