Early Morning: Connie Locklear-Chavis helps Brittany dress for kindergarten
They picked out her outfit together: a green-and-white softball T-shirt, green denim coveralls, green and pink tennis shoes, white socks and a green tie for her hair. She helped Brittany into her Little Red Riding Hood winter coat before they left their home to wait for the school bus.

7:00 AM: Brittany waits for the bus by herself and is kidnapped
Brittany was left at the end of her drive way by her mother to wait for the bus. She went inside to use the bathroom while Brittany waited. When she looked back, Brittany was gone. She assumed she was picked up by the school bus. The neighbor saw a truck stop, pick something up, and speed off and Brittany was missing. A neighbor, who witnessed the abduction, ran to Brittany's home and alerted the mother who went to the school and confirmed that Brittany was not on the bus. Police were called and searches ensued with hundreds of volunteers.
9:00 AM: Brittany's clothes and backpack are found on dirt road two miles away.
Finding Brittany's clothes immediately made law enforcement very doubtful that they would find her alive.

2:00 PM: Brittany's body is found.
The day after her disappearance, her body was found in a roadside ditch. Brittany's autopsy revealed possible sexual assualt and drowning as her cause of death.

A firefighter arrested for bank robbery and serving time is considered a suspect
Keith Londree was originally suspected because his locker at the firehouse he previously worked at had a picture of Brittany in it. His DNA was tested against samples recovered from Brittany's body and ultimately he was cleared of the suspicion.

The Hoke County Sheriff's office say they have enough DNA evidence to create a profile
Hoke County Sheriff Wayne Byrd said the State Bureau of Investigation has found enough forensic evidence to generate a profile of the killer's DNA. He would not say what type of evidence was collected.
