Overview of Katie Palmer

Katie Palmer was a mother, wife, teacher, sister, daughter and friend.

She was married to John, and they had 2 children together. Katie loved nature. She was a middle school science teacher in Denison, Texas. Many describe Katie as the type of person who left an impact. Katie was an organ donor and was able to donate multiple organs and ultimately was able to help seven people receive life-saving transplants.

Katie is hit by a car while walking in her neighborhood.

During the early morning hours of April 21, 2020, John and Katie Palmer took a walk down the street. While walking, a Ford F250 pickup truck veered off the road hitting both John and Katie. John sustained a broken back while Katie needed to be airlifted. However, due to the extent of Katie’s injuries, she died on April 22, 2020.

Where the case stands today.

On May 21, 2021, “Colton’s Law” was passed in the State of Texas. The law requires individuals to have their blood tested if they are pulled over or cause an accident due to drug or alcohol intoxication. Katie’s family supported this law because the driver, Cory Foster, who struck Katie and John Palmer has a criminal history ranging from reckless driving, speeding, and public intoxication. When officers responded to the scene, Foster’s blood was never tested despite a law enforcement officer noting that Foster’s breath smelled like alcohol.

Katie’s case remains unsolved. The family has recently filed a civil suit against Cory Foster in regard to the injuries sustained from the crash. The suit is ongoing.
