Police chief says Sheila and Danielle's case related
This is the first public acknowledgment that Danielle's and Sheila's case may be connected. “Both cases are on-going investigations. We’re working with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department closely and following all our leads, but yes, we have identified a person of interest in both cases and it’s the same man. We aren’t releasing his name at this time,” Chief Dobberstein said.

Skull found in Eel River
A human skull was found on the river bar near Ferndale. No other human remains were located during the search. The skull appeared to have been exposed to the elements for an extended period of time.
