Overview of Cassandra Rhines

Cassandra Rhines was last heard from in June of 1985 when she called a friend to confirm her attendance at her goddaughters birthday party in Minneapolis the following day. She never showed up at the party, and has not been heard from since.

Her remains were discovered in May of 2014 by an off-duty employee of the Lake County Sheriff's Office in a secluded part of Gooseberry State Park around 200 miles away from where Cassandra was living.

The remains were identified as belonging to Cassandra with DNA evidence after her sister submitted a DNA sample to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in 2013. Cassandra's death is being investigated as a homicide, and investigators believe that she was killed elsewhere and dropped in the remote area of the State Park.

At the beginning of the investigation, investigators were looking for a man who was in a photo with Cassandra, and who they learned had been living with Cassandra at the time of her disappearance in 1985. This man was later identified as Donald McSwain, who had previously died. Other tips informed investigators that Cassandra may have been involved with prostitution and working as an exotic dancer during this time, but it is unknown whether this could have played a role in her death.
